Dear Parishioners,

I feel a need to write to the people of the Steubenville Diocese, I was a convert in the Catholic Church and I must say I followed the teachings of the church, not that I felt they were all right according to the Bible that I grew up with, however for more than 40 some years I have been a member and so I do know first hand of some of the things that have been going on and are still going on. This letter is my own words and how I feel about the Catholic Church now.

Three years ago my Son broke down and told me and his father that he had been sexually abused at the hands of two Brothers of the Catholic Clergy when he was around 9 nine years old.

Well needless to say our world came to an end but so did a lot of unanswered questions also came into play. With all the problems we had over the years and the endless doctors we took our son to and never got an answer, we came to understand why. Well thanks to the SNAP organization which I am now a member of, we have been able to get through some of the problems we have encountered and get the help for our son that he so desperately needed. He has been in therapy now for two and half years (no thanks to the Bishop of Steubenville). The therapist who Bishop Conlon sent him to be evaluated, suggested that he be sent to a in-house rehabilitation CENTER.  Bishop Conlon's reply was it cost to much to send him there and suggested we find a cheaper place . Well in Marietta there isn't anyplace to send someone who was mentally in the shape our Son was, but did the Bishop care?  NO!
Did we get him help? YES!  Is our son ok now?  Well, he is better, but will he ever get over this? NO!
Will we as his family ever get over what we have been through? NO!  Will things change in the Catholic Church of sexual abuse of our children? I don't think so because our Law makers in Columbus voted down the window on the Senate Bill 17, which was the only way our children could get help.  Why was it voted down?  Because the Bishops of Ohio got to the legislators and told them that if Bill17 passed 'with the window'  it would bankrupt the Catholic Church.

But Bishop Conlon apparently never told them he is planning to build an expensive new Cathedral in Steubenville

So I ask what is more important then getting help for our children?  Or getting rid of the Sexual Abusers in the Catholic Church?  Or holding those Bishops accountable who have covered up the Sexual Abuse for years?

Well my brothers and sisters who know the Lord Jesus as your savior,  "what do you think is more important?"

These Abuser are going to have to answer to Jesus the same as every one of us. Just because they are standing up in the front of the church and saying mass and we are believing they change the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ , makes me sick after I know what they did just before mass or right after mass raping a innocence child  and then making people think and believe they are able to do what they want sexually as Priests, and still are worthy to even claim to be a man of God.  I could vomit. Are we still members of the Roman Catholic Church?  NO
Do we think we will go to Heaven? YOU BETTER BELEIVE IT.. . WHY?  BECAUSE JESUS MADE IT PLAIN IN: JOHN 14:6.. HE SAID NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME. HE WAS SPEAKING OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER. NOT THE ONE WHO CALLS HIMSELF A PRIEST.

Thank you for letting me share my hurt, anger, disgust, and disappointment with the Steubenville diocese. Our family has been hurt for life. We go on, but without any care, compassion, help, or acknowledgement from the Chancery of the Steubenville diocese. In other words, we were completely stonewalled by them.

How in the world can anyone say that this Bishop and his officials care anything about children's safety?  Past, Present or Future.
Please watch protect your children.

Thank you from a Mother,

In Christ our savior,  Jim and Helen Schoeppner
